INFORMATION FOR TRAVELERS
Warden Messages
17 February 2005
The U.S. Embassy in Beirut continues to assess security conditions
in the wake of the tragic events of February 14. In light of the
unsettled conditions, the Embassy will continue to restrict the
personal travel of its American staff.
We remain deeply concerned about the continued threat of terrorist
attacks against U.S. citizens and interests abroad. Terrorists do
not distinguish between official and civilian targets. U.S. citizens
are encouraged to maintain a high level of vigilance and to take
appropriate steps to increase their security awareness.
U.S. citizens in Lebanon are encouraged to register with the U.S.
Embassy in Beirut, where they may also obtain updated information
on travel and security in Lebanon. The U.S. Embassy is located in
Awkar, near Antelias, Beirut, Lebanon. American citizens who require
emergency services may contact the Embassy by telephone at any time.
The U.S. Embassy's telephone numbers are (961-4) 542-600, 543-600,
and fax 544-209. In addition, U.S. citizens should consult the Department
of State's Travel Warning for Lebanon, the Worldwide Caution Public
Announcement, Middle East and North Africa Public Announcement and
other information, available on the Consular Affairs Internet website
at http://travel.state.gov.
Up-to-date information on security conditions can also be obtained
by calling 1-888-407-4747 in the U.S. and for callers outside the
U.S. and Canada a regular toll line at 1-317-472-2328.
