INFORMATION FOR TRAVELERS
Warden Messages
19 May 2004
The Embassy has learned that Hezbollah has been issued a permit
for a march on Friday, May 21 to protest the American presence in
Iraq, starting in the southern suburbs of Beirut and beginning after
noon prayers. At this time, the Embassy does not anticipate closure
due to the demonstration and plans to remain open for consular services.
The Embassy cautions U.S. citizens to avoid large gatherings and
demonstrations. Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can
turn into confrontational situations and possibly escalate into
violence. U.S. citizens are reminded to maintain a high level of
vigilance and to take appropriate steps to increase their security
awareness.
If you have questions or concerns, you may contact the Consular
Section at 04-542-600. Americans can sign up to receive copies of
all Embassy warden notices by e-mailing the following address: Join-wardenmessagebeirut@mh.databack.com
