IRC Services
The Public Affairs Section provides research and reference services,
specializing in current U.S. policy, legislation, trade, social
and cultural issues. We emphasize electronic information resources
rather than books. The advantage of information in electronic format
is that searches for specific information can be made easily and
quickly. A collection of online data sources is supplemented by
access to the Internet databases. PAS subscribes to the following
databases, used by our Webmaster and Outreach Coordinator to assist
Lebanese on request:
"Factiva.com" blends an unrivalled collection of content
from 118 countries in 22 languages - including nearly 8,000 global
publications, 10,000 key Web sites, thousands of company profiles,
pictures from Reuters wires, The Wall
Street Journal and The New
York Times.
"Lexis-Nexis" - A legislative service that provides
on-line access to U.S. federal legislation, many reference and full-text
databases.
"First Search" Access to more than 55 databases.
This powerful tool increases the availability of reference information
by providing seamless access to bibliographic, abstract, and full-text
information with photographs and other images.
"GaleNet" a one-stop shopping database for Gale
Research products available on the World Wide Web. This covers the
Encyclopedia of Associations; Contemporary Authors; Research Centers
Family of Directories; Directories of Publications & Broadcast
Media
"Gale Expanded Academic Index" A database with
indexing and abstracts of 1,900 journals and the full text or image
of 900 titles. Provides online access to directories of the Congress,
federal, state and municipal government, law firms, NGOs, judicial,
media and associations.
"PDQ" Accessible on the internet through the World
Wide Web, PDQ provides information international relations and foreign
affairs from most publications produced by IIP.
"Federal News Service" FNS provides transcripts
to testimony, briefings, press conferences and congressional hearings
with questions and answers. FNS also produces a daybook which details
significant events in Washington as well as cabinet officer schedules.
