Student and Exchange Visitor Information System

SEVIS is the permanent system that will record electronically all significant events in the U.S. "CAREERS" of the International Students (F and M Visas) and Exchange Visitor Program Participants (J Visas).

SEVIS is the mechanism for electronic verification of prospective Students/Exchange Visitor Status. It is an Internet-Based Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services System that will track F, M and J visas participants from the time they receive their initial documentation (either an I-20 or DS-2019) until they graduate/leave school or conclude/leave program.

All Forms I-20 issued by the school for initial attendance by a new student must be created and issued from SEVIS. The school must also use SEVIS for the issuance of any Form I-20 that is updated and re-issued to a currently enrolled student. Once a student is registered in SEVIS, the school must update the student's record and report on the events required by SEVIS.

Students must present a SEVIS generated Form I-20 or DS-2019 with corresponding entries in the SEVIS database in support of the visa application.

For more information about "SEVIS" please check the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) website at: U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) - SEVIS.
