U.S. Embassy and Amideast Announce Fulbright Scholarships for
Master's Degree

The U.S. Embassy and AMIDEAST announce the launching of this year's
competition for the 2006 Fulbright Scholarship program. U.S. Ambassador
Jeffrey D. Feltman encouraged all qualified students to apply: "The
Fulbright Scholarship program is prestigious, competitive and opens
doors for those who are selected. Furthermore, top ranked educational
institutions in the United States are eager to welcome Lebanon's
brightest students. I encourage Lebanese professionals and students
interested in graduate study program to consider this excellent
opportunity."
The U.S. Government, through its Fulbright Scholarship programs,
funds a maximum of two academic years to obtain a master's degree
at a university in the United States. Applicants may be professionals
already working in their chosen field, or university students currently
in their junior or senior class. The Fulbright scholarships cover
expenses incurred for travel to and from the U.S., tuition, books,
health insurance, and room and board. All applicants must have excellent
academic records, strong English language skills, outstanding character,
and a desire to use skills gained in the U.S. to serve Lebanon upon
completion of their studies in the U.S. The scholarships will be
administered by AMIDEAST.
The Fulbright Foreign Student Scholarship Program was re-launched
in Lebanon in 2000. Since then, 26 Lebanese professionals and students
have been awarded these prestigious scholarships, in diverse fields
of study, including architecture, economics, theater, computer engineering,
geography, animal sciences, conflict resolution, psychology, public
administration, applied linguistics, and international affairs.
The Fulbright Program, established in 1946, is the premier international
educational program sponsored by the United States Government. Since
its inception, 255,000 students and scholars - chosen for their
academic merit and leadership potential - have been given the opportunity
to study and teach in each other's countries, exchange ideas, and
develop joint solutions to address shared concerns.
Completed applications, including required TOEFL and GRE scores
and written essays are due July 15, 2004. Applicants interested
in this program are encouraged to complete the application process
at the earliest date possible.
