U.S. Speaker Walter Russell Mead

Embassy Beirut hosted Walter
Russell Mead, one of America's most brilliant and original writers
on U.S. foreign policy, December 8-11, 2004. Mr. Mead
is Henry A. Kissinger Senior Fellow in U.S. Foreign Policy at the
Council on Foreign Relations. During his three-day program, Mr.
Mead presented
a lecture, "Power, Terror, Peace and War: America's Grand Strategy
in a World at Risk," at Lebanese American University. He also
held discussions with analysts, journalists and political figures.
He appeared on LBC's Kalam al-Nas program with Marcel Ghanem. Through
Mr. Mead's interactions with Lebanese audience, the Embassy aimed
to provide a context for enhanced understanding of U.S. policies
and positions on regional issues, particularly the Arab-Israeli
conflict and Iraq.
